Contact Training – Wear Training Jerseys

Time/Session #: 5:00-6:30pm, Contact Session
Feedback: More open field tackling experience, focus on launch and push, eye on safety
Objective: Aggression/Tackling within Defensive system
Principles: Apply Pressure

5:00-5:15pm: Warm Up – Add in Half of Kelly’s Contact Warmup (Wrestling/Slap your neighbor)

5:15-5:35pm
Activity: Contact/Dual – 2 equal groups- touch rugby, but must call contact before tag, or duel to attack space, full contact in open field after duel
KFA 1) Recognize space before pressure is on 2) continuity after dual is called, support is needed
Focus: Audible recognition of decision
Progression: Supporting players can also call dual

5:35-5:55pm
Activity – Launch and Recycle drill – 4 lines hit tackle bags, focus on pushing out after ball leaves hands of 1st receiver
KFA 1) stay home at D1, protect red channel 2) align with inside shoulder to push out
Focus: Point for each successful push, add in inserting attacker
Progression: Attack can align as they wish, remove cones for defense, first attacking line in phase play, drop shields

5:55-6:15pm
6:50-7:35pm Backs/Forwards Split
Activities: Rythm Passing as an entire group (Coach Katie)
Basic Starter Moves practice 3 of the most basic – use white board to identify
KFA: 1) watch ball into the hands 2) commit defender, and change line of running
Focus: Count quality reps
Progression: 3 quality reps, move on to next starter move
Forwards – Lineouts – assign hot number caller/decision maker – mark at several locations
KFA: 1) jumper first step angle in front vs. across tunnel 2) thrower activate core to increase length/accuracy
Focus: Switch players into different roles
Progression: Add in drive and off the top discussion – develop driving maul option

7:35-7:50pm – Semi-opposed w/ RGBY/Flow
