9/28/2017 – NEED 4 HIT SHIELDS, 1 TACKLE BAG, BALLS, CONES, PINNIES, WATER
Attire: Navy Dri-fit, socks, shorts
Time/Session #: 5:00-6:30pm
Feedback: Need defensive experience
Objective: Increase defensive experience, and holistic view of attack pattern by understanding starter moves
Principles: Continuity/Go Forward
5:00-5:15pm: Passing warmup (5 people w/creative play) and Dynamic Warm Up/Head/Neck Stretches
5:15-5:35PM:
Activity: Defensive Pressure Drill – need 4 hit shields, 2 pads on different sides of a breakdown (1 tackle bag) – one attacking square to move around in (2 teams, one scrum half on each), place ball at certain cone for attacking group, defensive group is on the ground with eyes closed (2 equal lines) behind tackle dummy. On whistle, attackers sprint to the ball (ruck support), and defense aligns w/D1-2-3, proceed through 3 phases
KFA: 1) D1 stays home 2) D3 pursues first receiver
Focus: Count number of times line breaks are made
Progression: Reduce number of defenders, overload attack, change up cones
5:35-5:50pm
Activity: Starter Moves for All – groups of 7, at least 2 backs in each group, small group is defensive opposition, rotate in
KFA 1) player-lead demonstration and discussion 2) include depth and lines of running (straighten up)
Focus: Switch positions
Progression: Ask a forward to show demonstrations at the end
5:50-6:10pm Backs/Forwards Split – MiKayla w/backs, Sierra w/Forwards
Backs: 3 v 1 v 1
KFA: 1) commit defender 2) angled lines of attack w/pace
Focus: Count number of drop balls
Progression: 3 v 2 v 1
Forwards: Scrummaging w/focus on backrow decision making
KFA: 1) Drive call coordinated 2) Spacing on the field when to call certain back row moves
Focus: Ensure all athletes know different back row play calls
Progression: Move scrums to different marks, sprint to different locations
6:10-6:25pm – Semi-opposed w/ focus on reacting to penalties/decision making
6:25-6:30pm: Cool Down Stretching
